Starting our adventure

After years of working 60 to 70 hours a week and never taking a vacation, Carolyn and I decided to quite our job and begin our full time RV’ing.  We bought a 1970 Starcraft pop-up camper and are in the process of fixing it up.  We may buy something more substantial later but we are quite excited starting our adventure in this pop-up.

The first thing I did to the camper was replace the wheel bearings and tires.  I took it on a test drive and the dust cover came off on the driver side (it was missing the dust cover when we bought it also).  I bought another dust cover and took it for another test drive and it came off again.  Time for Google…I discovered that I may be having problems with the dust cover because the wheel bearing may have overheated at some point and warped the hub.  So, I bought a new hub and the problem is solved.
The plastic wheel well was badly damaged on the driver side as well.  This allowed squirrels to easily enter the camper.  This also helped confirm that the wheel had issues in the past.  I figured that the tire blew and busted the wheel well.  Believe it or not, I was able to easily fix this with caulk.
I put a new propane tank hose/valve and the three burner stove worked perfectly.
We took all the canvas off and put it in the washing machine.  They look so much better.  I wish I would have taken before and after picture.  While the canvas was off we painted all the wood interior white.  This made the space look much bigger.  Finally, I waterproofed the canvas and tested it in the rain.
